Neelkanth Mahadev  is a sculpture representation of the mighty Lord Shiva in all his splendor. The word ‘Shiva’ means ‘auspicious one’. He is known as a major Hindu deity; worshiped by many. Lord Shiva is believed to be the destroyer or the transformer of the ‘Trimurti’ which is by legend, a trinity of the primary aspects of the divine.

Shiva is the god of the yogis, self-controlled and celibate, while at the same time a lover of his spouse Goddess ‘Parvati’. Lord Shiva is the destroyer of the world, following ‘Bhrama’ the creator and ‘Vishnu’ the preserver, after which Brahma again creates the world and so on. Shiva is responsible for change both in the form of death and destruction and in the positive sense of destroying the ego, the false identification with the form.

The Neelkanth Mahadev sculpture emulates the true essence of Lord Shiva and his powers. The glorious statue is 132 ft in height and is the tallest of its kind in the world. The Lord Shiva stands tall looking down upon the earth in his serene form. Held in one hand is his ‘Trishul’ or trident that represents the three ‘Gunas’. Around his neck is a carefully crafted snake which is symbolic of his power over deathly objects. His loin cloth which is intricately sculpted to create a true image of the Lord’s grandeur is believed to be made from the skin of a tiger, thus representing the mind.
